Optimising Energy Infrastructure for United Plastics

United Plastics were able to successfully optimise energy infrastructure, avoiding costly upgrades while meeting the power demands of new equipment. Learn how.

At Enginuity Power Solutions, we believe that the cleanest, greenest and safest energy is the energy you don’t use. This belief drives us to help companies optimise energy infrastructure, avoid unnecessary upgrades and improve efficiency. Recently, United Plastics (Cambelfield, VIC), a manufacturing company that supplies to the food and beverage industry, worked with us to upgrade their plant. We were excited to help.

Founded in 1980, United Plastics is a leading supplier of polythene products, offering a comprehensive range of over 4,000 items. Known for their competitive pricing, reliable customer support, and deep understanding of customer needs, they are a trusted name in the Australian market. As a frontline supplier of polythene consumables, they have successfully built long-lasting relationships, with many customers still sourcing products from them since the beginning.

The Challenge: High Energy Needs and Expensive Solutions

Manufacturing uses a lot of energy. Many are asking how they can optimise energy infrastructure even when they’re expanding production? United Plastics needed more power to run new equipment. At first, they thought they had to upgrade their infrastructure. This would give them more power, but it was very expensive. It also wasn’t the smartest option.

The Solution: Reduce Power Demand with Smart Technology

Instead of upgrading, United Plastics chose a better solution. We suggested using a Static VAR Generator. This device lowers reactive power demand and improves energy efficiency. It also frees up extra capacity on their current network.

By reducing their energy needs, United Plastics did not need expensive upgrades. They saved money and reduced their energy use at the same time. What’s more, the projected results of this project are 120 Tonnes annual reduction of CO2 emissions and $43,000 annual savings in energy costs (250 MWh reduction in annual energy consumption)!

A Fast Return on Investment

The return on investment (ROI) was quick. The Static VAR Generator cut energy use right away. United Plastics expects to recover their costs in three years, just from energy savings. This solution also helped the environment by reducing stress on the power grid and cutting down energy waste.

Economic, Environmental, and Social Benefits

At Enginuity Power Solutions, we care about providing solutions that benefit companies, the planet, and society. United Plastics didn’t just save money. They also lowered their environmental impact by using energy more wisely.

This project shows how companies that use a lot of energy can avoid expensive upgrades, save money, optimise energy infrastructure and become more sustainable.
