High voltage (HV) infrastructure is often invisible when it is working well. Yet behind every airport expansion, industrial upgrade, commercial precinct and critical facility is a network that must remain reliable, scalable and fit for purpose.
At Enginuity Power Solutions, high voltage projects are rarely just about replacing equipment or installing new cable. They are about solving operational challenges, reducing risk, future-proofing infrastructure and improving long-term reliability.
Across Tasmania and beyond, Enginuity Power Solutions works with organisations operating complex electrical environments where downtime, inefficiency and ageing infrastructure create significant operational risk. From network augmentation and HV upgrades through to fault rectification and power quality optimisation, the work spans the full lifecycle of high voltage infrastructure.
The common thread across every project is engineering-led problem solving.
Supporting Growth at Hobart Airport
Enginuity Power Solutions has been engaged to assist in many parts of the major works at Hobart International Airport, Tasmania. This includes the ongoing high voltage augmentation works at Hobart Airport, to increase reliability and capacity across a rapidly developing precinct while preparing the network for future growth.

According to Tom Green, the precinct was originally serviced by a spur in the HV network, which created a single point of failure. If a fault occurred, the entire area could lose power.
To address this, Enginuity Power Solutions installed additional high voltage cable infrastructure to create a ring-fed network with supply redundancy.
The project also demonstrates the consultative approach Enginuity Power Solutions brings to large infrastructure upgrades. The team has worked across the airport precinct for several years, helping assess expansion opportunities, future demand and network optimisation requirements.
Importantly, the work is not simply reactive. It is designed around future operational needs.
“What we need to make sure is that the infrastructure servicing the areas is correct, is future-proofed, and ultimately is fit for purpose.” Tom Green
This reflects a broader capability within Enginuity Power Solutions. The business is equipped to support clients from early-stage consultation and network planning through to design, construction, commissioning and ongoing support.

Transitioning the State Library of Tasmania to High Voltage
The transition of the State Library in Hobart from low voltage to high voltage infrastructure demonstrates another layer of capability.
Unlike greenfield projects, upgrades within operational public facilities require careful planning, coordination and risk management. Existing infrastructure constraints, operational continuity and future load requirements all need to be considered simultaneously.

The project involved upgrading the electrical infrastructure to increase the capacity of the asset to support growing demand, as well as improving the reliability and long-term operational resilience within an important public asset.
This type of work highlights Enginuity Power Solutions’ ability to deliver complex HV upgrades within existing built environments where operational disruption must be carefully managed.
It also reinforces a core principle behind many HV projects. Modern electrical infrastructure must not only meet today’s demands. It must also support future electrification, changing operational requirements and long-term reliability expectations.

Upgrading Critical HV Infrastructure at Huon Aquaculture
At Huon Aquaculture’s Parramatta Creek facility, the challenge involved replacing ageing HV infrastructure while minimising disruption to operations.
The project included high voltage switching and operating, HV cable termination works and the installation of new switchgear to replace end-of-life equipment.
However, the project extended beyond a straightforward equipment replacement.
The team also deployed a power quality solution through the low voltage network to improve efficiency and free up generator capacity. Through analysis, Enginuity Power Solutions identified poor power factor and harmonics that were reducing overall system performance.

By addressing these underlying power quality issues first, the HV cutover could be completed with significantly reduced operational disruption.
Enginuity Power Solutions does not view high voltage infrastructure in isolation. The business takes a systems-level approach that considers power quality, efficiency, operational continuity, reliability and long-term asset performance together.
This aligns closely with the organisation’s engineering-led philosophy and focus on improving energy efficiency outcomes through optimisation rather than unnecessary infrastructure replacement.

Rapid Fault Response at Boral Quarries
Not every HV project is planned years in advance.
At Boral’s quarry in Bridgewater, Enginuity Power Solutions was engaged to rectify a fault on an underground HV cable identified during routine maintenance.
The work involved HV isolation, switching, cable replacement, jointing, terminations and testing, all while operating within a demanding industrial environment.
The project also highlighted the importance of collaboration and specialist capability. Enginuity Power Solutions partnered with Tasmanian HV cable specialists Joint Co to complete the cable termination and jointing works.
“Preparation is key to make sure things run smoothly.” Tom Green
Importantly, the work was completed with the objective of returning the site to operation as quickly and safely as possible.
This responsiveness is critical in industrial environments where outages can directly impact production, logistics and operational continuity.
More Than High Voltage Installation
Taken together, these projects demonstrate the breadth of high voltage capability within Enginuity Power Solutions.
The work spans:
- HV network augmentation
- HV switching and operating
- HV fault rectification
- HV cable installation and jointing
- Ring main unit and switchgear upgrades
- Infrastructure future-proofing
- Power quality optimisation
- Reliability and redundancy improvements
- Operational risk reduction
- Integrated consultation, design and delivery
These capabilities are supported by a broader engineering approach focused on long-term system performance, resilience and efficiency.
That philosophy is also reflected across other high voltage and energy optimisation projects delivered by Enginuity Power Solutions, including renewable energy infrastructure maintenance, commercial building reliability upgrades and industrial efficiency projects.
Rather than approaching projects as isolated electrical works, Enginuity Power Solutions focuses on understanding how infrastructure performs within the wider operational environment.
For clients, that means solutions designed not only to solve immediate problems, but also to strengthen reliability, improve efficiency and support future growth.
